Nungua: Young man beaten to death over alleged iPhone 11 theft

A young man identified as Porsigee has died in the coastal suburb of Nungua after he was beaten to death by a mob over allegations of stealing an iPhone 11.

The incident happened on Tuesday evening, September 23, 2025.

At publication time, six suspects have been arrested by the Nungua Police Command in connection with the lynching which took place in Nungua Maamli. 

Police confirmed the arrests on Wednesday, September 24, adding that others involved in the attack were currently on the run.

The deceased, identified only as a man in his early twenties, was reportedly set upon by an angry crowd near the Nungua market area after being accused of snatching an iPhone 11 from a passerby. 

Eyewitnesses, in an interview with Accra News’ Sir Samuel Thompson, said the deceased was beaten with sticks, stones, and other objects until he became unconscious.

The father of the deceased, Mr Abosco, also narrated what happened, expressing worry over the incident.

According to him, the angry youth who killed his son knew him very well.

Police in Nungua is currently investigating the matter, with the arrested suspects facing charges related to the incident.

Nii Odai Ablade Electoral Area Assemblyman, Mr Francis Ashie Anum, was the one who took the deceased to the hospital after the mob left him unconscious.
