Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah's team confirms police custody, alleges 4 associates sustained gunshot injuries
The communications team of broadcaster and political commentator Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah has confirmed that he remains in police custody at the Asante Mampong Divisional Police Command following his arrest on Sunday.
In a For The Records statement, issued by Kwame Afrifa Mensah, and shared by the team, it said Afrifa was arrested at about 7:40 AM.
According to the statement, Afrifa's family, lawyers and campaign team were not informed of his whereabouts for several hours after his arrest, a situation the team said caused anxiety among supporters.
The statement said he was later transferred to the Asante Mampong Divisional Police Command at about 5 PM, where he remains in custody pending what it described as "further lawful processes."
The communications team stated that Afrifa was accompanied by supporters who were unarmed and had no intention of causing harm. It also denied allegations that he owns or has ever operated a vigilante group.
The statement further alleged that four members of Afrifa's team sustained severe gunshot injuries during the incident and are currently receiving treatment.
The team appealed to party supporters and the general public to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding, expressing confidence that due process would prevail. It added that further updates would be communicated through Afrifa's legal representatives and authorised spokespersons.
