Tragedy struck at Asukawkaw in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region on Thursday, August 14, when a fuel tanker lost control and ploughed into a crowd at the local market, killing four people and injuring 14 others.

Assembly Member for the Asukawkaw Electoral Area, Mark Oduro, confirmed that the deceased included three women and a one-year-old girl, all of whom were among traders and shoppers going about their business when the accident occurred.

Police in the district have since arrested the driver of the tanker to assist with investigations into the cause of the crash.

Mr. Oduro has appealed to the authorities to construct speed ramps along the stretch, describing the area as an accident-prone zone.

He noted that the absence of traffic-calming measures has contributed to frequent crashes in the community.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Worawora Government Hospital mortuary, while the injured are receiving treatment at nearby health facilities
