Rev Dr Kwabena Opuni Frimpong, former General Secretary of the Ghana Christian Council, has called on lawmakers to put aside partisan interests and work collectively toward the passage of the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill.

Speaking to Accra FM’s News Desk during the African Inter parliamentary conference on Family Sovereignty and Values in Accra, the respected clergyman expressed concern about the manner in which issues surrounding the proposed legislation are currently being handled.

According to Rev Dr Opuni Frimpong, he has closely followed recent developments, including the call from the speaker of parliament for the reconsideration of the bill. While he acknowledged that individuals have the right to express their views, he stressed that the focus should remain on the collective interest of the nation.

He noted that many Ghanaians are patiently and eagerly awaiting the passage of the bill and warned that any unnecessary delays could lead to widespread disappointment among the public.

Rev Dr Opuni Frimpong further emphasized that the debate over the bill should not be viewed as a contest of winners and losers. Rather, he urged all stakeholders to work together in ensuring the legislation is passed.

He concluded by calling for a united national effort to support the bill, which he believes will help address what he described as an unacceptable practice in society.
