The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the poor attendance of Members of Parliament (MPs) during sittings, cautioning that disciplinary measures will soon be applied against those who continuously flout the rules of the house.

Addressing the house, he emphasised the need for members to strictly adhere to the scheduled sitting hours and parliamentary procedures.

He explained that the afternoon sittings were designed to enable MPs to participate effectively in committee work, engage with public servants, and attend to issues affecting their constituents.

Mr Bagbin further encouraged members to take advantage of evening sittings, noting that such sessions offered citizens the opportunity to observe proceedings and contribute meaningfully to parliamentary democracy.

He, however, warned that persistent absenteeism and disregard for the Standing Orders of Parliament would no longer be tolerated. 

According to him, any member who continued to defy the rules risked facing disciplinary action that could eventually lead to the forfeiture of their seat.
