Suhum NDC Youth Wing holds one-week observation for helicopter crash victims

The Suhum branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Wing and party members have observed a one-week memorial for the eight people who perished in last Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash.
The sombre gathering brought together party faithful, sympathisers, and community members to honour the memory of the victims, described as “fallen heroes” who dedicated their lives to public service.
Speaking to Accra FM/CTV reporter Apelete Kofi-Michel, Suhum NDC Deputy Youth Organiser Abdulai Iddrisu, popularly known as Baba Tracker, recounted that the fatal incident occurred when a military helicopter carrying senior government officials—including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment Mohammed Murtala, and NADMO Acting Deputy Director-General for Operations Samuel Aboagye—went down in a forested area en route to Obuasi.
The delegation had been on its way to launch a major national initiative against illegal mining (galamsey) when the crash happened.
Rescue teams later recovered all eight bodies from the wreckage, with investigations ongoing to determine the cause.
At the memorial, Mr. Iddrisu described the deceased as “dedicated public servants whose sacrifice should inspire national unity.”
On his part, Asamoah Prince Obour, a.k.a Arrested, YEA Director in Accra, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, calling it “a catastrophe that has robbed the nation of strong leaders who were working to make Ghana sustainable, safe, and protected.”
He extended heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Ghana Armed Forces, the NDC, and the bereaved families.
Several party members also added their voices, pledging to keep the memory of the victims alive through continued service to the nation.
