Tema East MP inspects progress of work on Kpowulunor–Zigishore–Chemu Lagoon bridge road project
The Member of Parliament for Tema East Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Ashai Odamtten, on Saturday, 31 January 2026, undertook a working visit to inspect the ongoing construction of the Kpowulunor–Zigishore–Chemu Lagoon Bridge Road, a key infrastructure project in the constituency.
The inspection enabled the MP to assess progress on the project, which is expected to significantly improve road connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance socio-economic activities in Kpowulunor, Zigishore, and surrounding communities.
During the visit, engineers and project supervisors reported the successful completion of two critical preparatory phases: the diversion of existing drainage systems and the excavation and extension of the Chemu Lagoon outlet.
According to the technical team, these works are essential to creating a strong hydrological foundation for the road, reducing flood risks, and safeguarding the long-term durability of the infrastructure.
Mr. Odamtten was further briefed that the project is entering its next major phase, which will involve the design and construction of new drainage channels to ensure effective water flow away from the road and nearby communities.
Debris removal is also ongoing to prepare the site for the main civil works.
Expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, the MP said he was encouraged by the systematic approach adopted by the project team.
He noted that the completion of the drainage diversion and lagoon outlet expansion demonstrated strong technical diligence and paved the way for the simultaneous construction of permanent drainage systems and the road itself.
“Our priority is to deliver a durable, fit-for-purpose road that effectively addresses the long-standing mobility challenges faced by residents,” Hon. Odamtten stated.
He also expressed appreciation to the contractors, engineers, and workers for their commitment and thanked residents of Kpowulunor, Zigishore, and adjoining communities for their patience and cooperation throughout the construction period.
