Akofena speaks on his father's burial at a press conference

The leader of Kristo Asafo Mission, Israel Kwadwo Akofena Safo Kantanka, has dismissed reports circulating about the burial date of the church's founder, Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, urging members to disregard the information.

Speaking at a press conference, Akofena said neither the Kristo Asafo Mission nor the Safo family had announced any date for the burial.

"I urge the members of Kristo Asafo Mission to disregard any date and information circulating," he said.

He stressed that the family had not authorised the release of any burial arrangements.

"The Asante Kotoko family seated here has not released any date," he asserted.

Akofena pointed to the presence of the traditional head of the family, uncles, the church's council of elders, who he said have the mandate to choose and ordain the rightful leader, as well as regional council chairmen, secretaries, and leaders of the men's and women's groups, as evidence that no official decision had been taken.

Reaffirming his position, he said: "I stand on my authority as the Kankanta family head and the leader of Kristo Asafo to say throw away any date you have heard about. There's no truth in it."

He further clarified: "There'll be no burial held on the 30th of July 2026."

Mr Kantanka urged members and the public to await an official announcement from the family and the church regarding the funeral arrangements.
