The Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, has described corruption as one of the greatest obstacles to Ghana’s development, urging national leaders to place integrity and honesty at the heart of governance and public service.

Addressing a large gathering at this year’s Asogli Yam Festival in Ho, Togbe Afede emphasised that truthfulness and ethical leadership remain essential pillars for building a progressive, just, and prosperous society.

He called on both political and traditional leaders to lead by example, noting that the nation’s progress depends on a collective commitment to transparency and accountability.

“The fight against corruption must begin with a change of mind and attitude,” Togbe Afede stated, stressing that the battle against graft is not only institutional but also moral and cultural.

He further appealed to the government to strengthen and adequately support key anti-corruption bodies, including the Office of the Special Prosecutor, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), and other law enforcement agencies, to enhance their effectiveness in tackling corruption across all sectors.

The Asogli Yam Festival, celebrated annually, brings together people from all walks of life to reflect on unity, tradition, and national progress — themes Togbe Afede continues to link closely with integrity and good governance.
