The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has inaugurated a six-member Audit Committee to provide oversight on financial reporting, risk management, and internal control systems, in line with best practices in corporate governance.
The Committee is chaired by Mr. Alfred Osei Kwame, with members Ms. Sandra Amoah, Mr. William Kuusori, Mrs. Philomena Sueley Dodoo, Mr. William Agbaglah, and Dr. Edward Bannerman-Wood, who will serve as Secretary.
Members of the Committee were sworn into office at a brief ceremony held on Thursday, January 15, 2025, by the Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, Mr. Thomas Thompson-Aryee.
The Committee’s mandate includes reviewing audit reports, advising the University’s governing body on the appointment of external auditors, and monitoring Management’s responses to audit findings.
These measures are aimed at safeguarding University resources while promoting efficiency and effectiveness in financial administration.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Thompson-Aryee highlighted the critical role of Audit Committees in public institutions, emphasising their responsibility to guide management on financial expenditure and procurement.
He urged UPSA to strictly comply with relevant audit and procurement laws to enhance accountability.
The Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to sound financial management, noting that UPSA, as a professional university, remains dedicated to adhering to all applicable financial management regulations.
He further pledged Management’s full cooperation with the Audit Committee to strengthen accountability and improve the University’s financial governance framework.
