Volta Regional Health Directorate probes alleged narcotics case involving official driver
The Volta Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has initiated internal investigations following the arrest of one of its drivers over an alleged unlawful possession or control of narcotic substances.
In a press release signed by the Volta Regional Director of Health Service, Dr Emmanuel Atsu Dodor, the directorate confirmed that the incident, which has circulated widely on social media, involves Mr Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, a driver attached to the directorate.
According to the statement, on Friday, January 23, 2026, the transport unit of the directorate received information that Mr Dogbey had been arrested and detained at the Regional Police Headquarters in Ho. The arrest reportedly occurred while he was driving a vehicle with registration number GV 2460–14, belonging to the Volta Regional Health Directorate, which was allegedly conveying items suspected to be narcotic substances.

Management of the Directorate subsequently dispatched a team to the Regional Police Headquarters to follow up on the matter. The police confirmed the incident, and the driver is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
While the Ghana Police Service conducts its investigations, the Volta Regional Health Directorate has also begun internal processes to establish a committee of enquiry to independently examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. In addition, the directorate has announced plans to strengthen monitoring and tracking systems for all official vehicles to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.
The directorate emphasised its commitment to integrity, accountability, and professionalism, assuring the public that it will cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies and take all necessary measures in line with established procedures.
“The Volta Regional Health Directorate remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and professionalism in the delivery of health services,” the statement concluded.
