A combined team of officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate Headquarters, the Anti-Robbery Unit, CID Headquarters, as well as the Ashanti South and Ashanti Regional Police Commands, has arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery attack on the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road in the Nyinahin District on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
The incident led to the death of Dominic Frimpong, a player of Berekum Chelsea FC.
Following the attack, the Inspector-General of Police deployed a team of intelligence officers to support the Regional Command in a manhunt for the perpetrators. On April 15, 2026, an intelligence-led operation at Atimatim in Kumasi resulted in the arrest of suspect Mohammed Ahmed, also known as “I Can do,” identified as the gang leader, and another suspect, Bawa Gideon.
Police said the suspects attempted to flee and fired at officers during the operation.
Exhibits retrieved from the suspects include a pistol with two rounds of .32 ammunition, eleven BB cartridges, a “blantine,” pepper spray, desert boots, assorted mobile phones, and a black pullover.
During interrogation, Mohammed Ahmed admitted involvement in several robberies, including the Nkawie robbery, the Fufuso mobile vendor attack, and the attack on the Berekum Chelsea FC team. He also mentioned accomplices identified as Dauda, Huefe, and A.T., who are currently on the run.
Mohammed Ahmed is currently receiving treatment under police guard at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, while Bawa Gideon remains in custody assisting with investigations.
The suspects Dauda, Huefe, and A.T. have been declared wanted, and the police are appealing to the public for information leading to their arrest.
The Police Command commended officers involved in the operation for their efforts and professionalism in apprehending the suspects. It also expressed appreciation to the public and community members for their cooperation and support.
Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining members of the gang, and the suspects will be put before court to face the law.
