A/R: Police arrest suspect, seize suspected narcotic-laced drinks at Akyeremade
The Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) of the Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 53-year-old man and seized quantities of suspected narcotic-laced substances during an intelligence-led operation at Akyeremade in the Atwima Kwawoma District.
The operation, conducted on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at about 8:30 AM, targeted a pub known as De-Vicky’s, where the suspect, Adjei Owusu Afriyie, was apprehended.
A search of the premises, particularly a storeroom, led to the retrieval of seven barrels of locally manufactured dry gin, commonly known as akpeteshie, and 56 branded Alomo gin bottles, each believed to contain the local spirit. Officers also seized one barrel and a gallon of sobolo.
Preliminary assessments indicate that the seized drinks are suspected to have been laced with narcotic drugs.
