Bortianor shooting: Distraught mum goes naked, drags bare bottom on ground, breaks eggs to curse sons' killers

In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded on June 8, 2023, in the Bortianor area of the Ga South Municipality, the anguished cries of grieving mothers pierced the air as they mourned the loss of their loved ones.
Among the victims were two sons of a distraught mother who had fallen victim to an operation carried out by the police.
The affected families held a press conference to discuss their quest for justice, asserting that their deceased relatives were not involved in any criminal activities.
The police, in a statement, revealed that the targeted group was suspected to be land guards - individuals involved in illegal land protection activities.
The police force claimed that upon their arrival in the area, a violent shootout ensued as the alleged land guards engaged in an exchange of gunfire.
This clash resulted in the tragic demise of five individuals.
The police service further stated that these suspects had been terrorising residents and landowners not only in Bortianor but also in nearby communities.
Despite the passage of a month since the incident occurred, grief still envelops the community as residents and families grapple with their profound loss.
Clad in solemn red and black attire, townsfolk congregated to express their outrage, chanting war songs in protest against the police's actions.
During the press conference, bereaved relatives wept openly, while one mother, overwhelmed by sorrow, prostrated herself on the floor, her tears and pain on full display.
In a deeply symbolic act of mourning and seeking retribution, the aggrieved mother, later in the day, ventured into a nearby waterway.
With a bare chest and clutching a bottle of alcohol and a handful of eggs, she invoked curses upon her sons' killers.
In a poignant and ritualistic gesture, she poured out the beverage onto the ground and smashed the eggs, a symbolic release of anguish and a call for justice.
