Chairman Wontumi submits to investigations over nature crimes
Following an invitation by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has reported at the CID Headquarters.
According to a statement by the Ghana Police Service (GPS) Criminal Investigation Department (CID), this happened today Monday May 26, 2025, at midday to assist with investigation.
Signed by Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Superintendent of Police, Head of Public Affairs Unit (CID), the statement also revealed Chairman Wontumi was accompanied by a team of lawyers, led by Former Attorney General Mr Godfred Dame.
The statement said, the NPP executive was cautioned on three “alleged allegations,” underlining them as: 1. Undertaking mining operations without a license; 2. Pollution of water bodies; 3. Entering a forest reserve without authorisation.
“Mr Antwi -Boasiako cooperated very well with the police during the course of the investigation, after which he gave his statement to the police and was granted bail to report to police at 3pm tomorrow Tuesday 27th May 2025,” the CID statement noted.
“Further development will be communicated to the general public,” it assured.
