The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a violent motorbike robbery at Sibakon Down near Comet Estate in the Eastern Region.

According to a police statement issued by the Command’s Public Affairs Unit, the robbery occurred on January 18, 2026, when an okada rider was attacked and robbed of his belongings.

Police said personnel from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate tracked and arrested the main suspect, identified as Kwabla Egblorgbe Gadoglo Mohammed, also known as Moha, aged 31, at his hideout in Afienya on February 13, 2026.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Mohammed and an accomplice, who is now deceased, allegedly hired the services of the motorbike rider, Muntari Zakari, from Kwabenya to Sibakon Hospital. During the trip, the suspects reportedly attacked the rider using a locally manufactured pistol and a stone.

The assailants allegedly made away with the victim’s iPhone 13 Pro and forced him to surrender the key to his unregistered Royal motorbike. The victim raised an alarm, which led to residents intervening and lynching one of the robbers, while the other fled the scene with the stolen phone.

A subsequent search at Mohammed’s residence at Abokobi led to the recovery of several items, including a cutter, two pairs of scissors, two hammers, a hacksaw, a cutlass, a jackknife, a saw and three mobile phones.

Further investigations also resulted in the arrest of a second suspect, Kwame Accolor, alias Small Kidi, aged 37, at Anyako in the Volta Region. Police say he allegedly purchased the stolen iPhone 13 Pro for GH¢800.

Authorities disclosed that efforts are ongoing to retrieve the locally manufactured pistol believed to have been used in the attack.

The suspects have since been arraigned before court. Mohammed, who pleaded guilty to robbery, is expected to be sentenced on March 10, 2026, after the court deferred sentencing.

The Eastern Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led operations and public safety, assuring residents of continued efforts to clamp down on robbery and related crimes across the region.
