Man accused of defiling, sodomising 13-year-old daughter granted ₵100k bail

Mr Isaac Tettey, a 36-year-old trader accused of having sexual intercourse with his 13-year-old daughter, through the anus and vagina, has been granted bail in the sum of GHS100,000 by the Gender-based Circuit Court in Accra.
He is also to produce three sureties, two of whom are to be justified with landed property as a condition for the bail.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges of incest, defilement and unnatural carnal knowledge of his daughter.
The presiding judge, Christiana Cann, also directed the prosecution to file disclosures within 14 days.
The case has been adjourned to Tuesday, 18 October 2022.
The court remanded the 36-year-old trader into police custody for the crime.
The complainant, the 13-year-old victim, had been staying with her father at Kaneshie near Dansoman station for five years.
The accused person sleeps on the same bed as his daughter.
In 2021, the victim, while asleep, felt an unusual feeling in her body.
She woke up and saw the father having sexual intercourse with her through her anus.
The accused person continued having sex with the victim through her anus and vagina till May 2022, when the Aunty of the victim, one madam Gladys, realised the victim could not walk properly and, so, questioned her.
The victim disclosed her ordeal to her aunty, who confronted the suspect.
The suspect, however, denied having sex with the victim.
The victim also began avoiding the father and slept beside her grandmother or aunty, sometimes.
The suspect took offence at the daughter's behaviour and would beat the victim without any act of provocation or insult her for refusing to sleep in his room.
The Prosecutor told the court: "On 22nd September 2022 at about 6:30 pm, the suspect beat the victim and she came to Kaneshie DOVVSU (Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit) and reported the case".
The "suspect was arrested for investigation. A police medical report form was issued in the name of the victim to be taken to hospital for examination, treatment, and endorsement of the form by police.”
