Police arrest man seen assaulting wife in viral Facebook video
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a widely circulated Facebook video physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife at their residence in Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality.
The suspect, identified as John Odartey Lamptey, was arrested on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the family home after the disturbing video triggered public outrage and calls for swift police action.
According to the CID, two of the suspect’s siblings — Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey — were also arrested after they attempted to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and sharing the video online.
Police intervened quickly and rescued the tenant to ensure her safety.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to trace and protect the victim, who fled the residence before officers arrived.
The Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding victims of domestic violence and ensuring that offenders are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID.
