Police arrest ten for creating fake online food delivery platforms to defraud customers
The Ghana Police Service, through the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has arrested ten individuals for allegedly operating fake online food delivery platforms used to defraud unsuspecting customers across the country.
The first six suspects — identified as Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah — were apprehended on 1st October 2025 during a targeted intelligence-led operation at Sogakope.
The arrests followed weeks of surveillance linking the group to a network of fraudulent online businesses.
According to a police statement, the suspects had created counterfeit websites and social media pages impersonating well-known food brands such as Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko.
Customers who attempted to place orders through these fake platforms were instructed to make advance payments via mobile money, but never received their food.
Investigations further revealed that some victims lost additional funds after the suspects gained unauthorised access to their mobile money and bank accounts, pretending to assist them with payment issues.
Digital devices believed to have been used in the scheme have since been seized and are undergoing forensic analysis.
A follow-up operation on 12th October 2025 led to the arrest of the alleged ringleader, Elijah Sotama Etse, alias Pop Smoke, along with three accomplices — Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli — at their hideout in Haatso, Accra.
Police retrieved twelve mobile phones, which are currently being examined for further evidence.
All ten suspects are in custody and are expected to be arraigned before the court today, Monday, 13th October 2025.
The Ghana Police Service is urging members of the public who may have fallen victim to these fraudulent activities to report to the nearest police station to assist ongoing investigations.
