To ensure law and order, President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the Akatsi North District Police Headquarters at Ave Dakpa in the Volta Region, urging police officers to take ownership of the facility by cultivating the habit of maintenance to ensures it is properly maintained.

The police headquarters was initiated in 2014 but previously left uncompleted. The finalised project provides a befitting office accommodation and a formal headquarters for the District Police Commander and other decentralised personnel.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Mahama charged the police officers to ensure the facility remain in excellent condition years after its inauguration through the collective efforts of officers.

“I hope that the police officers will have a high sense of maintenance so that in five years’ time when I come back, this District Police Headquarters will still be looking the same as we commissioned it today without expecting James Gunu, the regional minister, to come and paint it,” he said.

He, therefore, encouraged the community and district assembly to collaborate with the Ghana Police Service to ensure the district is safe and peaceful.

“Security is a shared responsibility and I encourage you all to collaborate with the police to protect and ensure law and order. It is better to report a thief in your community than to cover them to steal your properties tomorrow," he said.

He said government investments in public infrastructure could only deliver long-term value if users took responsibility for maintaining them, stressing that the newly completed headquarters should remain in excellent condition for many years.

The commissioning of the Akatsi North District Police Headquarters forms part of efforts to strengthen policing infrastructure and improve security service delivery across the country.

The new facility is expected to provide officers with a more conducive working environment while enhancing operational efficiency and improving police visibility and response within the district and surrounding communities.

On his part, the Volta Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP Wisdom Akorli, expressed his gratitude the president for his commitment to tooling the Ghana Police Service. 

He assured that the facility will be maintained and protected. He added that the police will exhibit professionalism to ensure law and order to protect the people and the district. 

He appealed to the stakeholders and the residents to support the police service to fight crime.
