'NPP called him a small boy, but his knowledge speaks volumes' — Gifty Enam Gbedevi

Sammy Gyamfi, CEO, GOLDBOD

Gifty Enam Gbedevi, a political commentator, has praised the CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD), Sammy Gyamfi, for what she described as his commitment and contributions to Ghana's fight against illegal mining and environmental degradation.

Speaking on the Oman Nkosuo Morning Show on Wednesday, Gbedevi commended Sammy Gyamfi for his efforts and highlighted a recent statement he made regarding the country's water bodies affected by illegal mining activities.

Quoting the GOLDBOD CEO, she said: "The water is not clear yet, and we are still working on it."

According to Gbedevi, Sammy Gyamfi acknowledged that although many water bodies remain polluted, Ghanaians continue to depend on treated water for domestic use, while communities in mining areas also rely on these water sources for their daily activities.

She explained that in response to the situation, an amount of GH¢8.4 million has been released by the GOLDBOD to support water treatment efforts and facilitate repairs and maintenance works at the Ghana Water Company to improve the quality of water supplied to consumers.

Gbedevi stressed that the institutions and individuals entrusted with the funds must ensure that the money is used solely for the intended purpose to achieve the desired results.

She concluded her remarks by responding to criticisms from some members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), who, according to her, had previously referred to Sammy Gyamfi as a "small boy" in politics.

According to her, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is demonstrating that the knowledge, competence, and leadership qualities possessed by Sammy Gyamfi go far beyond the label critics sought to attach to him.
