Miracles Aboagye links EOCO arrest to NPP communications director bid
New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member Dennis 'Miracles' Aboagye has suggested that his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) was politically motivated and connected to his decision to contest for the party's National Communications Director position.
In his first public statement after being released from EOCO custody on Tuesday, Mr Aboagye noted that his arrest came just a day after he announced his intention to seek the position.
"Four days ago, just one day after I declared my intention to serve our great party as National Communications Director, I was picked up and detained by EOCO," he wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
Mr Aboagye said he believed a "false narrative" had been created about the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
"A false narrative was put out about my arrest, but Ghanaians are not fools, and neither are the good people of the New Patriotic Party. The facts and the truth will prevail!!" he proclaimed.
Despite the arrest and his detention, Mr Aboagye declared that he remained determined to pursue the communications leadership role within the NPP.
"Let me be clear: if the intention was to break me, it has failed. If the intention was to scare me, it has failed spectacularly," he said.
He added: "I will lead New Patriotic Party's Communications Directorate to command the narrative, and no cell, no false story, no intimidation will change that."
Mr Aboagye also thanked party members and supporters for standing by him during his detention.
Mr Aboagye was arrested at the Accra International Airport on Saturday evening and was granted GHS50 million bail on Tuesday with three sureties, two of whom must justify the bail with properties of equivalent value.
EOCO is investigating alleged financial irregularities at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD). The agency has said its investigations are ongoing.
