TikToker Rita Konadu, popularly known as Mamaone, has been granted bail after making her first appearance before the Accra High Court following her arrest over alleged defamatory comments targeting President John Dramani Mahama.

Mamaone appeared before the court on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, where the Judge admitted her to bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two sureties. 

The case was subsequently adjourned to allow for further proceedings.

Her court appearance comes just hours after she was arrested by the Ghana Police Service's Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) in Juaben in the Ashanti Region.

The 49-year old social media personality was picked up over allegations that she published a video on TikTok containing offensive and defamatory remarks directed at President John Dramani Mahama. 

Following her arrest, she was transported to Accra to assist with investigations before being arraigned before the High Court.

Mamaone's case is the latest in a growing number of prosecutions involving social media users accused of making alleged defamatory or offensive comments against public officials.

The development also comes in the wake of the recent conviction of TikToker Camila Alhassan, whose case reignited public debate over freedom of expression, responsible use of social media and the legal consequences of online content deemed defamatory.

With the case now before the courts, Mamaone is expected to return for the next hearing as investigations and legal proceedings continue.
