Woman caged for spending GHS 800,000 mistakenly transferred to her account

A woman identified as Constance Gyasi Nimako has been sentenced to prison in Accra for unlawfully spending GHS800,000 that was mistakenly deposited into her bank account.
According to court documents, after receiving the funds in error, Constance transferred GHS300,000 to her mother’s account, Cecilia Gyasi, and moved another GHS400,000 to a separate account she personally owns.
She also withdrew GHS70,500 in cash, bringing the total amount misappropriated to GHS770,500.
Her actions were flagged after the bank involved discovered the wrongful transaction and initiated a complaint, leading to her arrest and prosecution.
The court found Constance guilty of dishonestly appropriating the funds and sentenced her accordingly.
Meanwhile, her mother, Cecilia Gyasi, who is believed to have unknowingly received part of the stolen money, has been granted bail in the sum of GHS500,000 as investigations continue.
The case has sparked public interest, with many calling for increased vigilance in digital banking transactions and stronger enforcement of accountability measures for individuals who exploit system errors for personal gain.
