Arabic teachers to march over 17 months' arrears
Arabic instructors at Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti Region have served notice that they will embark on a demonstration on 8 November 2019 to compel the government to pay their salary arrears which have been in arrears for 17 months.
The Arabic instructors said they were recruited by the Zongo Ministry to provide lessons in some Islamic schools yet some of the tutors have not received their monthly stipend of GHS 450 since their recruitment on 5 January 2018
“We are, therefore, pleading with the authorities responsible for paying us to do so as soon as possible to enable us to take care of ourselves and families,” a statement signed by the Secretary of the group, Sheik Abdul Salam, said.
They also pleaded with the government to extend the 2-year contracts given to them and regularise the Arabic programme to make them permanent employees as the contract is due to expire in January 2020.
“We, the Arabic teachers, also entreat the government to consider retaining us as permanent teachers when the contract ends in 2020,” he appealed.
