Claims of unpaid services ‘false, without merit’ – Education Ministry reacts to locked school by contractor

The Ministry of Education has reacted to a video in which the Akim Asene M/A School in the Eastern Region was locked up by a contractor.
In the video, the contractor locked up the school, citing unpaid services as reason for doing so.
However, the Ministry of Education, making specific reference to “the contract between GETFUND and Ogbee Company Limited, with subcontractor Kontoh Sadea & Sons Ltd and PMMC as the consultants” in a statement issued on Wednesday, 28 February 2024 signed by its Spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng, indicated that “the claim of unpaid services is entirely false and without merit”.
According to the Ministry, the contract, “awarded by Birim Central District Assembly on March 30, 2016, pertains to the construction a 6-unit classroom block at Akim Asene M/A in the Eastern Region,” and the “contractors successfully completed the project and officially handed it over on 15 Februry 2021”.
It continued that throughout the project’s duration, the contractors submitted five payment certificates, all of which were promptly processed and fully paid by GETFUND in line with contractual terms.
The Ministry stressed that it “is, therefore, surprising and unacceptable for the same contractor to lock up the school over all unfounded claims”.
The Ministry revealed that it is “actively taking preventive measures to avoid the recurrence of such unfortunate incidents”.
