Failed BECE students to be re-admitted to resit in 2020
Candidates who failed the 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) and were unable to gain admission to Senior High Schools (SHS) are to be re-admitted to JHS 3 to re-sit the examination, the Ghana Education Service (GES), has said.
Their re-admission will enable them register and re-sit the exam as part of the government’s efforts to improve access and quality education in the country.
The readmission into JHS 3 applies to only those in public schools.
In a communiqué to the heads of public junior high schools, the Director-General of the GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa said: “All heads of public JHSs are to ensure that all such students who report at the schools are re-admitted and re-registered for the 2020 BECE.”
Regional directors have also been directed to ensure that district directors ensure heads of JHSs and affected students comply with the directive.
The communiqué stated: “Regional directors are kindly requested to supervise their respective district directors to ensure that headteachers and affected students duly comply with the directive.”
Some 38,355 out of 517,331 candidates who sat for the 2019 BECE could not get placement in SHSs because they failed the examination.
About 16,871 schools took part in the 2019 BECE.
