Intervene to expedite payment of our 1-year salary – Unpaid newly recruited teachers to GES D-G
A group calling itself the Coalition of Unpaid 2022 Newly Recruited Teachers has written to the Director-General of Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr Eric Nkansah, to enquire about their salary arrears.
According to the group, it began working in February 2022 but is yet to receive any salary from the GES.
In a letter addressed to the GES Director-General, the Coalition noted: “We are in high debts, and our rents are due for renewal but due to our inability to raise funds, most of us have been thrown out by our landlords.
“Again, due to the economic challenges, a lot of us have fallen sick and others losing their lives having worked for over a year without salary.”
The Coalition further noted: “We were validated in December for onward payments of our salaries unfortunately as we speak, we still do not know our fate as to whether we shall be paid this month or not.
“Our leadership, have visited the district education offices, regional education offices, ministry of education, finance ministry and controller and accountant general’s department severally but nobody is telling us anything.”
The Coalition indicated that, despite all efforts to get their arrears paid, no positive result has been received yet thus the reason for writing to the GES Director-General.
The Coalition, therefore, pleaded with the GES Director-General to “intervene” on their “behalf for processes to be expedited for onward payment” of their arrears and salaries latest by the end of February.
