Lily Mohammed apologises for unsavoury remarks over iShowSpeed’s Ghanaian passport
GHOne TV presenter Lily Mohammed has publicly apologised for comments she made during a live broadcast of the station’s morning programme, GH Today, describing them as “unsavoury” and inappropriate.
The incident occurred on Wednesday while she was anchoring the show, where she questioned the government’s decision to grant American streamer Darren Jason Watkins Jr., widely known as iShowSpeed, a Ghanaian passport after his recent visit to the country.
Her remarks quickly triggered criticism from viewers, many of whom took to social media to express their displeasure.
Some accused the presenter of being dismissive and insensitive toward the government’s gesture and its potential benefits to Ghana’s image and cultural promotion.
Following the backlash, Lily expressed regret over her comments.
She acknowledged that her words may have been inappropriate and apologised to anyone who felt offended.
She also extended a direct apology to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, as well as the general public.
According to her, the situation has served as an important lesson, and she remains committed to upholding professionalism and responsible communication while on air.
iShowSpeed’s visit to Ghana formed part of his larger African tour, which attracted widespread online attention and helped promote Ghana’s tourism and culture to a global audience.
