MP hands over new girls’ dormitory and expanded dining hall to Gushegu SHS
The Member of Parliament for the Gushegu Constituency in the Northern Region, Alhassan Tampuli, has officially handed over a newly constructed girls’ dormitory and an expanded dining hall to the management of Gushegu Senior High School.
The brief handover ceremony, held on Tuesday, brought together the Headmaster of the school, the Gushegu Municipal Director of Education, staff and students.
The projects form part of the MP’s efforts to improve infrastructure and learning conditions at the school.
The girls’ dormitory was constructed to replace an earlier structure that was destroyed by a rainstorm, leaving female students displaced.
In the aftermath of the incident, the school had temporarily converted the dining hall into a shelter for the affected students.
To address the situation, Mr. Tampuli rebuilt and expanded the dining hall to accommodate the growing student population, while also providing a permanent dormitory for the girls.
Mr. Tampuli commended contractors Afa Alidu Sabitu and Alhaji Star for what he described as excellent work on the dormitory and dining hall projects, respectively.
Addressing the gathering, the MP assured the school’s management, staff and students of his continued support, but also challenged students to improve their academic performance, particularly in their final examinations.
In line with this commitment, he announced an expansion of his scholarship scheme, increasing the number of beneficiaries to 300 students this year.
He indicated that notices would soon be published to invite eligible students to apply for the MP’s scholarship.
Responding to a request from the school’s headmaster, Mr. Tampuli also donated 100 bags of cement to support the completion of the school’s fence wall, aimed at improving security around the campus.
