President Mahama will 'review' Free SHS: Education Minister-designate Haruna Iddrisu

Minister of Education-designate Haruna Iddrisu has assured Ghanaians that President John Mahama’s government has no intention to abolish the Free Senior High School (FSHS) programme started by former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Mr Iddrisu noted President Mahama rather intends to enhance the programme, making it more equitable and sustainable.
He spoke when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee today, Monday, January 20, 2025.
“Let me assure this committee that President John Dramani Mahama has no option to cancel Free SHS,” Haruna Iddrisu said.
“Even during his campaign, he made it clear that he intends to expand Free SHS.”
“Chair, the important thing is that he will subject the Free SHS to a review,” Haruna Iddrisu emphasised.
Furthermore, Mr Iddrisu highlighted plans to engage stakeholders for insights and recommendations towards improving the FSHS programme, and even addressing wider challenges in local education.
