University of Ghana

Once again, the University of Ghana has led the ranking of tertiary institutions in the country in the 2020 Times Higher Education World Universities Ranking.

In Africa, University of Ghana was ranked 20th but was ranked within the 800 – 1,000 band on the global scale.

The likes of Kwame Nkrumah University, University of Cape Coast, University for Development Studies, and the University of Education, Winneba, which are four of the country’s biggest tertiary institutions, were not captured in the 2020 Ranking.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 includes almost 1,400 universities across 92 countries, standing as the largest and most diverse university rankings ever to date.

The table is based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

In a related development, Ashesi University was ranked number one in the country in the 2020 Times Higher Education Impact Ranking.

The University of Ghana ranked second, with University of Professional Studies, Accra, ranking third.

Only these three institutions were recognized in the Impact ranking.

The Impact Rankings measure the actions taken by higher education institutions to realize the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) around the world, and contributions to the world’s economic and social well-being.
