President John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.

In a solemn national broadcast, President Mahama described the incident as a "profoundly personal loss," noting that several of the victims were close colleagues and longtime friends.

The victims included:

* Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence

* Alhaji Dr. Murtala Mohammed, MP for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology

* Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

* Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)

* Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of NADMO

* Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Ghana Air Force

* Flying Officer Tsum Ampadu, Ghana Air Force

* Sergeant Ernest Addo, Ghana Air Force

“These were not just names or titles; they were individuals who dedicated themselves to the development of our nation,” the President said.

“Their final moments were spent in service—a testament to their unwavering commitment to Ghana.”

President Mahama paid tribute to each individual, describing them as “bright minds” and “gallant servants” who embodied the ideals of public service.

He also praised the three Air Force personnel for their professionalism and dedication to duty.

An investigation has been launched by the Ghana Armed Forces into the cause of the crash.

Flight data and cockpit voice recorders have been recovered, and an Investigative Board of Inquiry has been established.

All eight bodies have been retrieved, and government agencies are coordinating with families on identification and burial arrangements.

Calling for national unity in the face of tragedy, President Mahama urged Ghanaians to set aside political divisions.

“This is not a time for speculation or point-scoring. It is a time for empathy, strength, and collective mourning,” he said.

National Memorial Plans

An Evening of Reflections and Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, 9th August at 5:00 p.m. at the forecourt of the State House.

Books of condolence will be opened from Sunday, 10th August to Thursday, 14th August at several locations, including:

* Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology

* Ministry of Foreign Affairs

* Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters

* NDC Headquarters

* NADMO Head Office

A state funeral will be held on Friday, 15th August at Black Star Square to honour the fallen.

President Mahama concluded with a message of hope and healing: “Though they are gone from our sight, they remain forever in the spirit of the nation they so faithfully served.
