University of Ghana retains top spot in QS World University Rankings 2026
The University of Ghana has once again been ranked as the best university in Ghana and the entire West African sub-region, according to the newly released QS World University Rankings for 2026.
The prestigious global ranking reaffirms the University’s position as a leading institution for higher education, research, and academic excellence in the region.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, welcomed the news with pride, describing it as a testament to the hard work of the University’s faculty, students, and staff.
“This recognition reflects our continued commitment to academic excellence, impactful research, and international collaboration,” she stated.
The QS World University Rankings, one of the most respected global university ranking systems, assesses institutions based on several indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, research output, and internationalisation.
The University of Ghana’s performance in areas such as research productivity, graduate employability, and partnerships with global institutions played a significant role in maintaining its lead.
Officials say the University remains focused on enhancing its global standing through innovation, digitisation, and strategic partnerships to support national and continental development.
