More than 400 residents have been displaced following a devastating fire that swept through approximately 200 wooden structures in the Baaba Ayoyo slum, located in the Ahodwo area of the Kumasi Metropolis in the Ashanti Region.

The blaze, which broke out around 7:30 PM yesterday, destroyed property worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

Swift intervention by personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service helped to contain the inferno, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures and enabling the salvage of some belongings.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown.

However, fire officers have launched an investigation to determine what triggered the incident.

Meanwhile, some victims suspect arson, pointing to an unnamed man they believe may be connected to the fire.

Thankfully, no casualties were recorded.

Affected residents are now appealing to the government and humanitarian organisations for urgent support, including temporary shelter and basic necessities to rebuild their lives.

Kwabena Owusu, the Unit Committee Chairman for the Ridge/Nhyiaeso electoral areas, also visited the scene and expressed concern over the plight of the victims.

He called for coordinated efforts to provide relief and prevent future occurrences in such vulnerable communities.
