Goldboard task force to intensify crackdown on smuggling: "No room for looting our natural wealth" – Sammy Gyamfi declares

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Goldboard, Sammy Gyamfi, has issued a strong warning to illegal gold smugglers, declaring that the era of unchecked smuggling of Ghana’s natural resources is over.
Speaking on recent enforcement efforts, Mr. Gyamfi praised the operations of the newly established Ghana Goldboard Task Force, which he says has been activated to protect the country’s gold reserves from criminal exploitation
“There is no room for the smuggling of our natural resources anymore.
What the caterpillars have eaten is enough—we must protect what’s left for all Ghanaians,” he stated firmly.
According to the CEO, the Task Force has been equipped with the tools and intelligence to dismantle smuggling networks and secure Ghana’s gold value chain, ensuring that the precious mineral directly benefits the state and its citizens.
Mr. Gyamfi, known for his strong anti-corruption stance, emphasised that smugglers only respond to strength and resolve.
“When you fire the warning a hundred times, they return in thousands and will kill.
That’s the only language they understand.
But this time, we are ready,” he said, alluding to the persistent and dangerous tactics used by illegal gold traders.
The Task Force's operations are part of a broader strategy to tighten oversight over Ghana’s mining and export systems, in line with the government’s commitment to maximizing domestic revenue through resource protection.
