The anti-galamsey taskforce in operation

The Anti-Galamsey Task Force stationed at Manso-Adubia in the Ashanti Region has intensified its crackdown on illegal mining, seizing an excavator during a special operation at Adobewura, a community near Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District.

The operation, carried out on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 4:00 PM, was led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bawah Abdul Jalil.

A total of 45 personnel were deployed in six service vehicles to the suspected illegal mining hotspot.

Task Force officials revealed that illegal miners in the area usually designate Tuesdays as their "rest day," a pattern the team sought to exploit for the operation.

However, intelligence suggested that the miners had been tipped off ahead of time and vacated the site before the arrival of security personnel.

Despite this setback, the task force discovered an excavator actively in use at the mining site.

The machine was immediately impounded, loaded onto a low-bed carrier, and transported to the task force base at Manso-Adubia for safekeeping and further investigation.

The Anti-Galamsey Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling illegal mining networks across the region and warned operators that such activities would not be tolerated.

This latest operation forms part of the government’s ongoing strategy to curb the devastating environmental and social impacts of galamsey in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
