Treat my earlier statement as a wake-up call-GFL boss urges gov't

The Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has called on the government to exercise maximum caution following the tragic military helicopter crash that killed eight people.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu show on Saturday, August 23, Mr. Koomson emphasised that top government officials must prioritise their safety and avoid complacency in matters of security.

The labour leader, who drew widespread attention last week after suggesting that the crash may have been an attempt to target former President John Dramani Mahama, disclosed that his remarks had even prompted a visit from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

However, Mr. Koomson clarified that the focus should not be on his earlier statement but rather on identifying the real cause of the tragedy.

“My statement is not what should be discussed. What we need to ask is: what exactly went wrong for a military helicopter that was carrying the minister of defence to crash and take the lives of eight gallant men?” he said.

Mr. Koomson urged the government to treat the incident as a wake-up call, stressing that the country cannot afford instability or lapses in national security.

He further warned that the administration must do “everything necessary” to safeguard its officials and institutions.

Taking a swipe at the opposition, the GFL Secretary General argued that a return to power by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would be dangerous for Ghana.

“It will be dire for this nation to fall back under the NPP. They have nothing good to offer Ghanaians but evil things,” he claimed.
