Farmers’ Association petitions Nursing Council to sanction GRNMA’s General Secretary over “derogatory” remarks

The leadership of the Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF) has formally petitioned the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) of Ghana to apply disciplinary measures against Dr. David Tenkorang Twum, the General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).
In a petition addressed to the NMC, GNAFF accused Dr. Tenkorang of making “derogatory, unprovoked, and unprintable remarks” against the Minister of Health, Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and farmers across the country.
The alleged comments were made during an interview on Asempa FM’s socio-political talk show 'Ekosii Sen' on August 22, 2025.
According to GNAFF, the remarks have since become public and have caused “deep offence” to farmers and fishermen, who they described as “the backbone of Ghana’s economy and food security.”
The petition further noted that the Association issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Dr. Tenkorang to retract his comments and render an unqualified apology, but he failed to comply.
“His conduct, in our considered view, brings the nursing and midwifery profession into disrepute and undermines the high ethical standards expected of practitioners under your regulation,” GNAFF stated.
GNAFF’s Demands
The farmers’ Association is calling on the Nursing and Midwifery Council to:
Investigate the conduct of Dr. Tenkorang in line with its disciplinary procedures.
Apply sanctions prescribed under the professional code of ethics.
Compel Dr. Tenkorang to issue a formal apology to farmers, fishermen, and the Minister of Health.
In their submission, GNAFF’s General Secretary, Dr. Abutu Kapori, and President, Michael Tetteh Kwetey (LL.M), emphasised that the action was necessary to “uphold professional standards, protect public confidence in nursing and midwifery, and send a clear message that abuse of public trust and derogatory conduct will not be tolerated.”
The Nursing and Midwifery Council has not yet publicly responded to the petition.
