The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has led a high-level security delegation to the Savannah Region following violent communal clashes that left at least five people dead and six others injured.

According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, the delegation from the National Police Headquarters will hold engagements with chiefs, opinion leaders, and community stakeholders in Sawla, Gbiniyiri, Giniri, and other affected communities to explore lasting solutions to the conflict.

Security reinforcements, including personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, have already been deployed to stabilise the situation and restore calm.

“We urge all parties to remain calm and work with the security teams to ensure lasting peace in the area,” the Police Service appealed.

Local authorities confirmed that the violence erupted on Sunday morning in Gbiniyiri, a farming community, after a dispute over land ownership.

The confrontation quickly escalated, resulting in fatalities and multiple injuries.

Of the six wounded, three are said to be in critical condition and are receiving treatment at nearby health facilities.

The IGP’s visit is expected to reinforce confidence in the security response while paving the way for dialogue among the feuding groups.
