WAEC calls for installation of cameras in exam centres to curb malpractice

The Head of Public Affairs at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mr. John Kapi, has appealed to the government to consider installing surveillance cameras in examination centres as part of measures to combat exam malpractice.
According to him, although WAEC has intensified efforts to sensitise students and stakeholders on the dangers and consequences of malpractice, additional measures are needed to protect the integrity of examinations.
“Sensitisation alone is not enough.
The installation of cameras in exam halls will serve as both a deterrent and a monitoring tool to curb malpractice,” Mr. Kapi stated.
He made this call while speaking in an interview with the media
He stressed that examination malpractice undermines the credibility of Ghana’s education system and the value of certificates issued, warning that failure to act decisively could have long-term consequences for the nation’s human resource development.
Mr. Kapi further urged government and education stakeholders to support WAEC with the necessary logistics and resources to strengthen examination monitoring nationwide
