A/R: Obuasi drivers trained on road safety, urged to prioritise maintenance of their vehicles

Fifty commercial and institutional drivers and cyclists from Obuasi have benefitted from a free road safety training.
The training was organised in response to calls to curb the increasing rate of road accidents in Obuasi and its surrounding areas by AngloGold Ashanti Ghana, Obuasi Mine in partnership with the Driver and Vehicle Lincensing Authority (DVLA), the National Road Safety Authority, the Ghana Ambulance Service, the Ghana National Fire Service and the Obuasi Municipal Assembly.
Statistics from the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD), revealed 145 accidents were recorded in Obuasi between January to September 2023 with about 200 injuries with more than 30 casualties, this the Social Development and Gender Superintendent of AngloGold Ashanti Mavis Nana Yaa Kyei noted was alarming informing stakeholders to put in place proactive measures to contain the situation.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Ms Kyei explained the programme is aimed at instilling a culture of responsible driving and adherence to traffic rules, as well as raising awareness about potential hazards on the road.
The Obuasi Manager of the DVLA Edwin H. Ofori, lauded AngloGold Ashanti for organising and sponsoring the training programme.
He noted the programme will empower drivers by refreshing their minds on the best practices to adopt to ensure safety on the road which will help reduce road accidents in Obuasi.
He urged drivers to prioritise vehicle maintenance emphasising it was crucial for keeping cars running smoothly and safely.
“Regularly check and change the oil, inspect the tires, brakes, and lights, and schedule routine maintenance like tune-ups and fluid checks.
“Always Remember, proper maintenance can help prevent breakdowns and extend the life of the vehicle”, he added.
