AMA to launch phase II of Youth Climate Action Fund, calls for public participation

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced the official launch of Phase II of the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF), scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
This initiative aims to empower young people to spearhead innovative climate solutions and build resilience against environmental challenges.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs on behalf of the Coordinating Director, the Assembly confirmed that the launch event would be held at the AMA office in Accra from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
The event will bring together government officials, climate experts, youth innovators, and development partners to highlight the critical role of young people in climate action.
First introduced at Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Mayors Innovation Studio during COP28 UAE, YCAF is a global initiative designed to provide technical support and funding to young people aged 15-24 for the development and implementation of climate resilience projects.
According to the statement, AMA has secured an additional $100,000 under Phase II, with support from Bloomberg Philanthropies, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), and the Bloomberg Centre for Public Innovation.
The funding will scale up youth-led climate initiatives across Accra, further strengthening community-based environmental efforts.
As part of the launch, an Ideation Workshop will be held to provide young participants with mentorship, technical guidance, and skills training to refine their project ideas for potential funding.
“This initiative is aimed at empowering young people to take the lead in developing practical solutions to Accra’s environmental challenges,” the statement read.
It further noted that the programme aligns with AMA’s broader commitment to climate resilience and sustainability.
The general public, youth groups, environmental advocates, and stakeholders are invited to attend the event and actively participate in efforts to create a greener and more sustainable Accra.
More details on YCAF and application guidelines will be shared during the launch and made available on official AMA platforms.
