Bodyguard collapses during President Akufo-Addo’s final SONA

A dramatic incident unfolded during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s final State of the Nation Address on Friday, January 3, 2025, when one of his personal bodyguards, Colonel Isaac Amponsah, collapsed while standing guard in Parliament.
The incident occurred shortly after the President began his speech, which reviewed his administration’s achievements and outlined aspirations for Ghana’s future.
Col. Amponsah, a long-serving and dedicated member of the President’s security detail, suddenly lost consciousness, prompting immediate concern among those in attendance.
Parliament’s medical team responded swiftly, administering first aid before transporting Col. Amponsah to a nearby medical facility for further evaluation and care.
President Akufo-Addo, visibly concerned, paused his address briefly to ensure his bodyguard received prompt attention.
The address resumed shortly after, with the President continuing his reflections on Ghana’s progress and setting the stage for the nation’s future under new leadership.
