Coup plot: “If BNI invites me, I’ll go” – Toobu

Superintendent Peter Lanchene Toobu has said he will make himself available for interrogation by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) if any such invitation is extended to him in connection with the alleged botched coup plot to “destabilise” the government.
He said he has not been invited by any state security agency including the BNI yet over the matter, contrary to media reports.
Mr Toobo told Kwabena Prah Jnr. (The Don) on Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Wednesday, 6 November 2019 that: “I have not been invited by the BNI over any matter.”
He added: “We are a country of law and I am a law-abiding citizen and, so, if the BNI invites me, I will honour the invitation”.
The retired senior police officer, who resigned to run for parliament on the ticket of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), said: “I am currently focused on my campaign to be elected as an MP to make life comfortable for the people and, so, it is funny that I will be associated with such a plot to destabilise the country.”
Media reports indicated on Tuesday, 5 November 2019 that the ex-Executive Secretary to former Inspector-General of Police, Mr David Asante-Apeatu, had been invited by the BNI for questioning in relation to his alleged involvement in the alleged coup.
The now-parliamentary candidate for Wa West is alleged to have known about the activities of the alleged coup plotters.
But Mr Toobu described the accusations as: “Funny and very interesting”, adding: “Invitations are a normal part of our democracy and, so, if they invite me, I will go.”
