Don’t charge for water for next three months – Dapaah to landlords, water dealers

Persons who sell pipe-borne water must cease taking money from their clients as the government has absorbed water bills for Ghanaians for the next three months, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Ms Cecilia Dapaah has said.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, while addressing the nation on the progress of the two-week lockdown in Accra, Tema, Kasoa and Kumasi, said the government will pay the water bills of Ghanaians for the stipulated period to ease their burden.

Some Ghanaians without pipes in their homes have wondered if they are exempted from enjoying the social intervention since they buy water at privately-owned pipe stands.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, 7 April 2020, Ms Dapaah warned that no one should sell water to anybody as the government has absorbed the cost for the next three months.

She also noted that “water tankers, both publicly and privately-owned, are also going to be mobilised to ensure the supply of water to all vulnerable communities”.
