Don't drink from poisoned Tano river: NADMO warns

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has warned people living along the Tano river in the Boo East Region to stop drinking from the river, effective Tuesday, 14 January 2020.
The affected communities include Techiman, Tanoso, Chira, Duayaw Nkwanta and Bechem.
A statement issued by NADMO’s Director for Offinso North, Mamoa Elijah, said: “This release is necessitated by an accident involving an articulated truck carrying car batteries at Tanoso in the Bono East Region. As a result of the accident, the acid in the battery diluted into the water, culminating in the death of several aquatic animals including fish, crocodiles etc.”
“We are, by this, urging all to carry the message to the target communities and people along the Tano river bank to save human lives”, it added.
