GA/R: Relief for commuters as construction works resume on Tema-Aflao highway

There is renewed optimism among commuters and business operators along the Tema-Aflao highway in the Greater Accra Region as construction works officially resume on the long-stalled road project.
After over a year of inactivity, work has restarted on the critical 17-kilometre stretch between the Tema Roundabout and Central University at Miotso.
The resumption comes following fresh financial commitments and intervention by the Government of Ghana.
The project is being handled by BHM International Construction (UK) Ltd, which mobilized equipment and personnel to the site on Monday, April 7, 2025.
The resumption of work has brought a sense of relief to road users, who have long endured poor road conditions, traffic congestion, and safety risks.
Many commuters and transport operators have welcomed the development as a step in the right direction, expressing hope for a smoother and safer travel experience upon completion.
Additionally, business owners operating along the affected stretch have been evacuated and compensated to make way for the project.
While some have had to relocate, they acknowledged the importance of the project and the government’s effort to offer compensation.
Speaking to Accra 100.5 FM's Rebecca Lartey in an interview, several residents and business operators urged the government to maintain momentum and ensure the project is completed without further delays.
“We are happy to see work resume, but we want to see it completed. We hope the government follows through this time,” one commuter remarked.
The Tema-Aflao highway is a major trade and transport route linking Ghana to Togo and the rest of West Africa, making its rehabilitation critical to both local mobility and regional commerce.
