The funeral service planned for the late Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, is in jeopardy following an interim injunction issued against the ceremony.

Originally scheduled for this weekend, the latest legal action has cast doubt on its occurrence.

Seven individuals with close ties to the family have taken the matter to court, resulting in a temporary halt to the funeral proceedings.

According to court documents, the organizers of the funeral have been ordered to refrain from conducting any activities related to the late Queen Mother, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, for the next 10 days.

The court order explicitly states: "It is hereby ORDERED that Defendants/Respondents or the Funeral Committee, chaired by Nii Otintor II, all committee members, their associates, employees, and anyone acting on their behalf, are prohibited from handling, organizing, touching, performing, or otherwise dealing with the remains of the Late Queen Mother, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, for a period of ten (10) days."

The plaintiffs in this case include prominent figures such as Nuumo Emmanuel T. Antia We, Head of the Antie We of Kpone; Nii Addey Oba-Aasaa II, Ankobea of Antie We of Kpone; Shippi Antie I, Saduase Shippi Kpone; Charles Nii Kotey Kotey, Head of Naa Dedei Omaedru We Family of Faase, Accra; Asafoatse Nii Kotey Ga II, Oseahene of Ga Manye Stool and Principal Elder of the Naa Dedei Omaedru We of Faase, Accra; Michael Nii Ofei Danso of an unnumbered House in Accra, Principal Elder of Naa Dedei Omaedru We of Faase, Accra; and Naa Yomofio, Linguist of Ga Manye Naa Dedei Omaedru We.

Naa Dedei Omaedru III passed away in December 2022.

The final funeral rites for the late Ga Manye were initially planned from October 15 to 31, 2023.

In response to the funeral preparations, the Ga Traditional Council had earlier issued a directive for the closure of shops and offices in the Central Business District of the Greater Accra Region. Initially, this directive called for a three-day closure from October 26 to 29, 2023. However, the council has recently revised its stance, announcing that shops and offices should only be closed on Saturday, October 28, 2023, as opposed to the originally proposed three days.

They have also urged all businesses to display mourning colors, red and black, from October 15 to 31, 2023.

The situation surrounding the funeral of Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, remains uncertain as the legal proceedings unfold.
