Limited voter registration: 847 challenged cases recorded in V/R within first 14 days

A total of 847 challenge cases have been recorded in the first two weeks of the exercise

The Volta Region in the first 14 days of the limited Voter registration exercise, from Tuesday, 12 September to Monday, 25 September 2023, registered a total of 38, 294 new registrants.

A total of 847 challenge cases have been recorded in the first two weeks of the exercise.

Registrants who were challenged in the process are those that the political party agents suspect to be minors, thus, less than the eligible age of 18 years, people who are suspected to be foreigners and those who do not come from a particular constituency that they want to register for, among other reasons.

A total of 19, 462 males and 18,833 females have been captured onto the voter roll over the past two weeks in the region. 

The Volta Region has 18 constituencies across which the exercise is taking place. 

Eighty-eight people were challenged during the first two-weeks of the exercise. 

Meanwhile, the District Registration Review Committee (DRRC) began sitting in the Ho municipality last week.

At its sitting on Wednesday, 20 September 2023, 14 people out of the 23 challenged who appeared before the Committee in the first week were cleared.

Again, at the Committee’s sitting on Wednesday, 27 September 2023, out of 65 challenged cases, 34 were cleared.

In all, 88 people have been challenged in the first two weeks in the Ho municipality with 48 cleared and their voter identification cards issued to them.

The Committee will continue sitting in order to look into other cases brought before it. 

The nine-member committee is chaired by the Warlord of the Asogli State and Dufia of Ho Dome, Togbe Adzie Lakle Howusu XII.
